
Seanan McGuire
Seanan McGuire is the author of the October Daye books as well as numerous other series. Her publishing career ranges among urban fantasy, horror, apocalyptic science fiction, Marvel comics, and more. She writes horror under the penname Mira Grant.
Biography[]
Seanan McGuire was born in Martinez, California and raised in a wide variety of locations. She earned a dual degree in folklore and herpetology from the University of Berkeley, California, and has lived in San Francisco and the Pacific Northwest among other places.[citation needed]
She has described her interests as including "swamps, long walks, long walks in swamps, things that live in swamps, horror movies, strange noises, musical theater, reality TV, comic books, finding pennies on the street, and venomous reptiles."[1] She has acquired memetic internet fame for her reptile-rescue anecdotes.
She currently lives in the Pacific Northwest with her mother and a small herd of cats.

McGuire was awarded the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer by the 2010 World Science Fiction Convention. This award was announced at Aussiecon 4 on September 5, 2010.[2] As this award is in the form of a tiara and the award was presented in Australia, McGuire has blogged that this makes her "Officially the Princess of the Kingdom of Poison and Flame".[3]
In 2010, McGuire's novel Feed (written under the pseudonym Mira Grant) ranked #74 in an National Public Radio listener poll of the top 100 Thriller novels of all time.[4] Feed was also selected by Publishers Weekly as one of their Best Books of 2010.[5]
McGuire was the 2012 inductee into the 2012 Darrell Awards Hall of Fame for her contributions to Mid-south science fiction.[6]
In 2013 she set a record for five Hugo nominations in a single year.[7] In 2017-2018, she became the first author to win the American Library Association's Alex Award in two consecutive years.[8]
