The Divided Courts is the collective name for the kingdoms of Faerie. The Divided Courts are ruled by the High King and Queen (currently Aethlin and Maida Sollysin the Westlands). They include the demesnes of all kings and queens in North America. These rulers occasionally assemble in a conference when important matters must be decided.
The Court of Cats is the only kingdom of Faerie excluded from the Divided Courts, by the wishes of its ruling family led by Tybalt, King of Cats. The Divided Courts have no authority over it or its inhabitants (the Cait Sidhe), but recognize its King as a fellow monarch by courtesy.
It is customary for at least some pureblooded fae to announce their maturity before the High King upon reaching adulthood.[1]
