Daoine Sidhe are a type of land fae known for their bloodwork, illusions, and vivid coloration. They are descended from Eira Rosynhwyr and claimed by Titania. They first appear in Rosemary and Rue.

About[]

The Daoine Sidhe are the first nobility of Faerie and hold the majority of titles and positions. Their dominance stems from their Firstborn, Evening Winterrose, who ordered them to conquer Faerie to earn her love.[1] Many Daoine Sidhe without any titles or claims can become desperate in attaining power, in rare cases even willing to start wars.[2] Some, like the father of Maida Sollys, can be content with just being Barons despite being the lowest rank among nobility.

Daoine Sidhe are bright and vibrant, like a fairy tale.[3] Their hair and eye coloring are especially colorful, ranging from bronze to green to fox-fur red.

They are skilled in blood magic, able to trace memories through blood. When they taste someone's blood, they live through that person's active consciousness. This can be used to see the final moments of someone who has died,[4] to verify the truth of a statement,[5] or even see a memory through their subject's eyes.[6] They are also skilled illusionists, a testament to them being descendants of Titania.

Mythology[]

Daoine Sidhe is an alternate spelling of Aes Sidhe.

It is the Irish term for a supernatural race in Irish mythology and Scottish mythology, comparable to the fairies or elves. They are said to live underground in fairy mounds, across the western sea, or in an invisible world that coexists with the world of humans. They are variously said to be the ancestors, the spirits of nature, or goddesses and gods.

"Aes" or "Daoine" translates to "people" and "sidhe" translates to "mounds" (of Ireland and Scotland). They are "the people of the mounds." The Barrow Wight have a similar naming convention.

Alternate spellings: "aos sí, daoine sìth, "the sídhe."

Other sidhe were considered subtypes of the aes sidhe: cait sidhe, banshee, cu sidhe, tuatha de dannan, changeling, glastig, gean-cannah, merrow, puca, and others.
