Danny MacReady is a Bridge Troll, taxi driver, and friend of October Daye. He first appears in Rosemary and Rue.
About[]
Danny is a cab driver in San Francisco who takes both fae and mortal riders. He is placid and dependable, and enjoys being helpful. He has a soft spot for vulnerable creatures and keeps a number of Barghest rescues as pets.
His car has a number of magical modifications including an enlargement charm and portal-creation capabilities.
After some prodding from Toby, he starts dating his mechanic Connie.
In the Series[]
Rosemary and Rue[]
Danny picks up Toby from the Golden Gate Park after Lily treated her at the Tea Gardens from a gun shot wound. On the walk to the cab, she and her friends (Julie and Ross Hampton) were ambushed by the Redcap. She is shot again—bleeding all aver his back seat. He asks payment for cleaning. Ash Danny is helping Toby to her apartment to get the money, they find Devin there who calls her by name. Danny lights up at that saying that she helped his sister when she was in trouble. He refuses to take her money for he upholstery. He also adamantly offers her cab rides when ever she needed them, for free. [2]
A Local Habitation[]
Toby briefly considers calling Danny to pick her, Connor, and Quentin up from Tamed Lightning. However, Sylvester tells them to stay until the investigation is solved.
An Artificial Night[]
Danny helps Toby round up an infestation of Barghests in Dame Altair's knowe. He decides to recuse them, rehoming some but adopting a number of them for himself. He also tells Toby she should get out and socialize more often.
Late Eclipses[]
Danny joins Toby and May for a grocery shopping trip. Later, while Toby is in the midst of investigating who has poisoned Lily and Luna, she calls upon Danny to shuttle her around San Francisco. They are chased by pursuers, and he uses modifications on his cab to open a portal into the Summerlands. He remains at their entrypoint of Amandine's tower, which Toby keys to accept him, to act as defense while Toby and Connor continue on to Shadowed Hills.
Through This House[]
Danny helps Toby reclaim the knowe of Goldengreen. He brings along his pet barghests, Iggy, Lou, and Daisy.
One Salt Sea[]
At Toby's request, Danny asks around for information about the missing Lorden boys. May also encourages her to ask him for help examining Raysel's rock collection, since his Bridge Troll abilities allow him to communicate with them. He learns approximately where each stone was collected from including Toby's old home with Gillian and Cliff, and from Muir Woods. Danny's clues help Toby piece together where the boys are being held.
Chimes at Midnight[]
Toby recruits Danny's help while searching for the missing Arden Windermere. She gives him a magical firefly that allows him to see the glamoured Borderlands and he helps subdue Arden and Madden when they are inclined to attack.
A Red-Rose Chain[]
Danny works with Toby and her allies to subdue a pack of Mauthe Doog that escaped the deeper lands of Faerie during Chelsea's portaling fiasco.
The Brightest Fell[]
Danny joins Toby's bachelorette party and plays designated driver to her inebriated friends. He is genuinely happy that she has found happiness.
Night and Silence[]
Danny helps Toby track down a family of Arkan Sonney and considers taking them home himself. Danny prods Toby to talk about her feelings and the issues with her relationship with Tybalt, and delivers her safely home.
The Unkindest Tide[]
Toby recruits Danny to pick Gillian up and bring her to the docks before their voyage to the Duchy of Ships.
A Killing Frost[]
At Tybalt's request, Danny escorts Toby to the Cat in the Rafters for a surprise date with Tybalt.
When Sorrows Come[]
Danny drives the Luidaeg, Poppy, and a disguised Oberon to Toby's house. He picks up the household (minus Toby and Tybalt, who opt for the Shadow Roads) and give them a ride to Muir Woods. He does not attend the wedding at the High Court.
Relationships[]
October Daye[]
Danny consistently claims that he gives Toby free rides as thanks for Toby helping his sister years ago, but they both know that they have become genuine friends. Danny isn't afraid to call Toby out when she's being dense and moody, and he's happy to help her on knightly errands.
Connie[]
Connie began as Danny's magical mechanic, tricking out his ride with dont-look-here's and expansion charms. At some point, they began dating.
Unnamed Sister[]
Danny insists that Toby helped his sister out of a tight spot in 1994, although Toby never seems to remember the specifics.[2][3] This rescue inspires Danny's readiness to give Toby free taxi rides and help her with various adventures.
Trivia[]
