October Daye Wiki

Ceres is a Blodynbryd who resides in the Kingdom of Silences. She is the third daughter of Acacia and Blind Michael and the sister of Luna Torquill, as well as the aunt of Walther Davies.

About[]

Ceres has been remarked by Toby to look so physically similar to Luna, however her colour schemes are varying shades of purple. Her skin is almost light lavender, and her hair is light purple at the roots that trends towards a darker purple, almost black, at the tips. Instead of yellow eyes, her eyes are pink.

She also speaks with a faint Welsh accent. Despite Luna's issues with Toby, she harbours no ill wishes towards the latter, instead thanking Toby from freeing Blind Michael and the Riders from his torment and giving her the opportunity to see Acacia once more. She disapproved of Luna using a Kitsune skin to hide behind like a topiary, showing relief when she became Blodynbryd again. She is loyal towards the entire Yates family, having been defying King Rhys silently, who in turn plucks her roses to use as decoration or for the dresses of his courtiers.

Like most fae, Ceres is curious about Toby's smartphone.

In the Series[]

A Red-Rose Chain[]

Ceres provides covert aid to October and her friends in overthrowing the sadistic King Rhys and his lover, the nameless former Queen of the Mists in A Red-Rose Chain. Although King Rhys leaves her alone, he plucks her roses just to spite her presence.

Before Walther left Silences, Ceres made him promise to find the cure for elf-shot, and has been tending to the roses in Silences, one of them the one that formulated the basis of elf-shot.

When she first meets Toby, she tells her rose goblins to pass false information to Rhys. Toby highlights the similarities to Luna, and Ceres inquires about her, then once she realises who Toby is, thanks her for killing Blind Michael and allowing her to see her mother Acacia.

Ceres treats Walther, Quentin, Tybalt and Toby to tea and cookies, explaining the history of Silences to Toby and the promise she made Walther commit to. When Marlis intrudes, Ceres watches with interest as Walther douses her with the anti-compulsion charm and is relieved when she breaks free of the enchantment.

Ceres is not seen again until Toby and Quentin traverse to her garden. Using Toby's scent, they finally narrow down the rose that was used to formulate elf-shot in the first place, and after a confirmation with the Luidaeg that Walther needed to begin the process, she continues to assist them until Rhys is deposed and the Yates monarchy are back in power.

Relationships[]

Acacia[]

Acacia is working to re-establish relationships with her daughters. She has visited Ceres at least twice since Blind Michael's death.[1]

Trivia[]

  • Word of God: "Ceres loves, but not exactly like a mammal would love. Luna was loving with someone else’s limbic system, essentially, and is now reset to “you’re a plant,” and is trying to deal with all the accompanying changes. It’s not exactly easy. Also, while Ceres loves them, you’ll notice that she’s not in deep, burning, familial love with them. She has an easier, shallower kind of love."[2]
