The Bridge Troll is a type of land fae known for its giant size and craggy, rocky skin. Bridge Trolls first appear in Rosemary and Rue.

About[]

Bridge Trolls tend to be big, placid, dependable people, and they take their responsibilities seriously.[1] Bridge Trolls are known for their immense strength and durability, making them immune to canine Fae attacks and most bladed weapons. Their skin is harder than granite [2].

"It wasn't until Titania's descendants began waging war against us that we started to see forms like the Bridge Trolls, and the Ysengrimus, and the Gean-Cannah. Faerie readied us for war, because the war was already happening." - Luidaeg, Be the Serpent

Characters[]

Danny MacReady[]

Danny is a taxi driver in San Francisco. He ferries both fae and mortal passengers, and uses powerful illusion charms so the humans are none the wiser. He has also added expansion charms to his taxi in order to fit comfortably.

Danny's Sister[]

Danny's sister is presumably a Bridge Troll like him. Toby does not remember helping her, although Danny refers to it regularly.[3]

Tavis[]

Tavis is a knight of Shadowed Hills. He is ten feet tall, remarkable even for a Bridge Toll, and his shoulders don't fit through most human door frames.[4]

Mythology[]

Trolls appear in Scandanavian folklore, including Norse mythology. In Old Norse sources, beings described as trolls dwell in isolated rocks, mountains, or caves, live together in small family units, and are rarely helpful to human beings. In later Scandinavian folklore, trolls became beings in their own right, where they live far from human habitation, are not Christianized, and are considered dangerous to human beings. Trolls are sometimes associated with particular landmarks, and many stories place them as guarding the bridges under which they live.

A popular story of the troll under the bridge is the Three Billy Goats Gruff.
