Blodynbryd are a type of Land fae tied to fields of roses. They are closely related to and similar to Dryads, with whom they share a Firstborn.[1] They are descendants of both Acacia and Blind Michael, making them descendants of both Titania and Maeve.
About[]
Only two Blodynbryds have been reported, so it is unclear how many are left, but the typical feature is that of light skin (Luna being ivory white and Ceres being a shade of lavender) with pollen yellow eyes and hair that either darkens or lightens from the roots.
Blodynbryds cannot reproduce sexually, but they can cut their hair and create Rose Goblins.[2] Luna was able to physically bear a child through a stolen Kitsune skin as it gave her the properties of a mammal, although that method has been proven to be the cause of mixed blood madness, despite Raysel having a majority of Titania's blood in her. Luna has even hinted that carrying Raysel had almost resulted in miscarriages a few times.
Blodynbryds are tied directly to rose bushes, similarly to how Dryads are connected to trees. If their rose bushes are compromised, then they can get sick or even die. Salt is an easy way to harm a Blodynbryd, as salt can poison and kill plants.[3]
Characters[]
Luna Torquill[]
Luna is the youngest daughter of Acacia and Blind Michael. As a child, she stole the skin of a Kitsune girl in order to escape her father. She lived in the Kitsune form until adulthood, and was able to have a child with Sylvester Torquill while wearing the mammalian form.[4] She fully reverted to Blodynbryd form when poison stripped her guise away.[5]
Ceres[]
Ceres is the daughter of Acacia and Blind Michael, as well as Luna's sister. She left home as an adult and became the tutor and surrogate aunt to the Yates family in the Kingdom of Silences.[6]
Rayseline Torquill (former)[]
Rayseline was born a mix of Daoine Sidhe, apparent Kitsune, and Blodynbryd. The mix of creators as well as the mix of mammalian and plant heritages caused her to go mad. With Rayseline's consent, Toby shifts her blood to pure Daoine Sidhe.[7]
Mythology[]
The Blodynbryd race is likely based on Blodeuwedd or Blodeuedd of Welsh mythology. She was made from the flowers of broom, meadowsweet and oak by magicians and given as a wife to the heroic Lleu Llaw Gyffes, an analog of the Celtic Lugh, who was cursed never to have a human wife.
